I have not read this book yet, but I heard that even just having it in my presence will bring me good energy, so I'm up for that. His face on the cover is a but intense. I feel like he's going to yell at me. Ha, any way, I love the message, and will cherish it always.

A great addition to non-duality teaching !

Essentially what this book does is break down Nisargadatta Maharaj's teachings into small bite sized fragments and analyze them backwards and forwards. Advaita (non-duality)certainly isn't the easiest thing in the world to understand, add to that some of Nisagadatta's classic hindu and sankrit terminolgies and you can get very confused at times. That's just the nature of studying a Masterpiece like I AM THAT, it's deep and pure advaita right from India. So, Wolinsky's book is a great treasure as a kind of guidebook to I AM THAT. He's probably one of the most qualified americans to discuss the topic of Advaita & Nisagadatta's teachings.
The book has some nice exercises to "play" around with to get the teachings on a more experiential level so that it goes beyond just intellectual analysis.
It's not the easiest book in the world to understand. Not because of any flaw from Wolinsky, just the depth of this can be a bit tricky to grasp at times. Like I am That, this is a book to come back to over and over.BR>It will help bring your understanding of Nisargadatta Maharaj's teachings to a new level.

Penetrating the Face of the Non-Dualistic Mind

This is an outstanding introduction to the life and teachings of a pivitol figure in 20th century Advaitic (non-dualistic) thought. It allows those interested in understanding Nisargadatta Maharaja's teachings (presented in numerous available publications) to systematically penetrate his various trains of thought by seminal themes. An added feature is the introduction of practical exercises for those desiring to look into the Reality that Nisargadatta presented to those able to encounter him while still alive, to do so for themselves in a simple and direct manner. Although the overall content of the work is excellent, it is however marred by poor editing (too many glaring typos for a published work); an obnoxious repetition of exercises with little variation, which could of been summarized in one or two chapters; and Stephen Wolinsky's constant insertion of his personal philosophical/psychological ideas -- Quantum Psychology. If the necessary editorial revisions were made and the personal philosophy left out of the book, it would be a gem. Maybe in a second edition?
P.S. For those interested in comparative thought, being thematic in presentation, it allows for many parallells to be drawn between Dzogchen, Mahamudra, Kashmir Shaivism, Zen/Ch'an, Ch'uan Chen Taoism, the Christian Saint Meister Eckhart, and Ramana Maharshi, etc. Nisargadatta was also linked to the tradition of Nath Yogins, a Pan-Indian Tantric movement stemming from the 9th/10th C. that had within its ranks the founders of many Mahasiddha linegages that are present in the Religious Traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, etc., which are still in existence today.

About the Author

Patrick D. Howard has over 38 years of experience in the security industry, and has worked in the computer security field for the past 23 years. Mr. Howard has served as the Chief Information Security Officer at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission since March 17, 2008, and is responsible for managing NRC’s enterprise-wide information security program. Prior to joining NRC, Mr. Howard was employed at the Department of Housing and Urban Development for 3 years, where he served as HUD’s Chief Information Security Officer and managed the Department’s enterprise-wide information technology security program.

Mr. Howard led HUD to a first ever "A+" score on Congress’ 2006 FISMA Report Card and was recognized as a 2007 Fed 100 winner for his accomplishments in government information technology. Prior to joining HUD, Mr. Howard was employed by the Titan Corporation supporting the Department of Transportation where he served as the Department’s Certification and Accreditation Program Manager. Mr. Howard is co-author of the Total CISSP Exam Prep Book, and author of Building and Implementing a Security Certification and Accreditation Program.

Mr. Howard received a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Oklahoma and an master's degree in International Relations from Boston University. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM). He is a member of the American Council for Technology/Industry Advisory Council (ACT/IAC) InfoSec and Privacy Shared Interest Group Government Advisory Panel and the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium’s Government Advisory Board and the Executive Writer’s Bureau, which he chairs. Mr. Howard is also an adjunct professor of Information Assurance at Walsh College, Troy, Michigan.

Useful reference

I have referenced this book several times and it has been helpful for reporting and general guidance. For Continuous Monitoring I find the NIST publications to be more useful. NIST SP800-137 is the Continuous Monitoring guide and contains a reference to SP800-39 Risk Management (see also 800-37 and 800-30) plus SP800-53 and SP800-53A on understanding and evaluating controls. I sometimes reference this book to interpret government-speak which can be very handy. The ISO 27000 documentation is also very handy for reinterpreting NIST to business and SP800-53 has a mapping of NIST to ISO in Appendix H. Although it is the 2005 version of ISO 27002 it is still useful to avoid the 'are you speaking Klingon' looks.

Mr. Howard's book, in my opinion is on point, and literally "text book" in terms of its real world applicability. I have used his book as a Information Security Consultant and in the class room, teaching on the subject of Risk Management Framework (RMF). The practical advice on how an organization plans, staffs and successfully executes FISMA and compliance best practices within the organization, quite simply is good, sound advice and it works. Mr. Howard offers usable information that considers the nuances and anomalies associated with IT Security support operations, and provides the framework organizations can use to successfully implement a FISMA compliant IT Security program. PU, what a stinker

I was expecting something better. If an author ties the apron strings of the NIST SP 800-40 Vulnaerability Process to the frayed Irish Pennents of the Risk Mnagement Framework and describes how that fits into the SDLC and Configuration Management Process, they could make a lot of money. However, that is not that book. This is the most expensive and the least valuable book I have bought at Amazon nand it is going back tomorrow. I expected more from CRC as well- since my other CRC references are a little worn from decades of use. Specific flaw in this book (one of Many). On Page 250, an OMB memo is reprinted with FAQ. a TOC is on that page. Since this document is embedded in the book, the page numbers would be wrong if the original numbers were printed.... (OK)... But did they put in correct page numbers? No- the .... TOC Tpoics have no page number reflected. Now, to the more abysurdy... Vulnerability is mentioned on pages 178 and 179 (that is all). You would get more for your money by taking the $71 to Kinkos, and printing the OMB -15 (just google OMB and CYBERSCOPE), then get the FIPS 199 and 200, NIST SP 800 and key words security plan, patch, risk, SDLC, NIST 800-53 and 53A The 800-40 PVM v2 and the draft v3, the -37 Risk Mgt Framewotk, configuration management, cloud computing, etc and you will have what this book could have been (you will also possibly leave with enough money in change to splurge at Starbuck's. Lastly, a book like this needs to cross reference to authorotative edicts so you can reference those (to the boss who is just not getting it), Real references, not the opinion of some Chemical Rubber Company Press Author!. This may be from CRC Press, but this rubber product holds no water.. This book does pass the R.A.H test of having enough pages to hold the covers apart but that is its best feature. . Finally found a Catholic "Total" Bible Commentary...been looking for one for years until this one was finally suggested to me. I owe that person a debt of gratitude if I can ever trace back to where this advice was given to me. Wish it were available in e format but it is about the size of my printed dictionary, larger than my NAB Catholic Study Bible when stuffing it into a bag it seems but not that much larger and thicker but it is somewhat...
I recommend this to any person seriously into bible studying or student.

So far, I find this Biblical Commentary very helpful with the Course I'm studying. It is a wonderful reference book but not one you begin on the first page and read through! It's scholarly and is laid out very satisfactorily.

A very interesting and helpful thick book, very complete and easy to use: practical but really encyclopedial (including more peripheral issues: Qumran, Apocrypha, geography, etc), erudite but sufficiently freed from any complication derived from exegetical theories and reconstructions.

Author Victoria Hoevemeyer has worked for over 20 years in organizational development and leadership coaching from her home base of Illinois, and her expertise shows through in the direct, straightforward tone suffusing this book.

If the interactions between job seekers and job interviewers can resemble a cat-and-mouse game, with each group trying to outwit and to stay one step ahead of the other, High-Impact Interview Questions serves as recruiters' foil to the books popular with candidates, such as How Would You Move Mt. Fuji? and Best Answers to the 201 Most Frequently Asked Interview Questions . It opens by describing three different kinds of questions which dominate most modern job interviews: conventional questions ("What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?"), situational questions ("How would you handle a crisis in which your boss asked you to do something that you considered unethical?"), and brainteaser questions ("Why are manhole covers round?"), and analyzes the shortcomings of each approach. Revealing interview questions...and how to use them

Selecting the right person for a job is both an art and a science. To help you improve your chances of finding the right person, author Victoria A. Hoevemeyer proposes that human resource departments and hiring managers should ask applicants explicit questions about their skills and behavior. This approach, known as "Competency-Based Behavioral Interviewing" (CBBI), provides a clear picture of what candidates actually did in their previous jobs. Hoevemeyer's sensible idea is that if candidates succeeded at certain tasks before, they'll repeat their success in their new jobs. She provides a very long list of detailed questions that hiring managers can use to learn the specifics of candidates' skills and past performance. However, the book lacks proof that the CBBI process actually results in recruiting new hires who perform well and have better retention rates. Still, since Hoevemeyer's approach clearly elicits rich information, we believe that managers and even experienced HR professionals may find her interviewing tactics useful.

This book is easy to pick up and understand what behavioral interviewing is all about. For someone that is at the other end of the interview process (the interviewee) this book helped to better prepare me for the interview process in this day and age. Interviews no longer entail just talking about your experience. A potential employer needs more information about a person in a short period of time. By reading "High-Impact Interview Questions" I feel more confident knowing what a potential employer could be looking for and what kind of quetions they may be asking. For the price, this book is well worth it!
